Our safety policies are modelled on applicable South African legislation and International Safety standards and we conduct safety audits on a regular basis to ensure continued compliance.

In addition to the SHEQ and SQAS compliance, Power-It complies with the National standards of:
- SANS 102630 - The warehousing of dangerous goods – General requirements;
- SANS 102630 (Part 5) - The warehousing of dangerous goods; and
- SANS 310 - Storage tank facilities published by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).

All employees have been trained, and undertake safety training on a regular basis, to ensure operations are carried out with due regard to statutory requirements including:

- SQAS (Safety and Quality Assessment System for logistics providers); and

- Internal safety policies and protocols

At Power-it we integrate the 3 international management systems being ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 (now ISO 45001) and ISO 9001 to ensure overall compliance with health and safety in our warehouses.

We comply with the South African safety legislation being the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 which governs:

- the general health and safety of persons at work; and

- for the health and safety of persons in connection with the use of plant and machinery within our warehouses.

SABS Standards

Power-It complies with the National standards of:

- SANS 102630 - The warehousing of dangerous goods – General requirements;

- SANS 102630 (Part 5) - The warehousing of dangerous goods; and

- SANS 310 - Storage tank facilities

published by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).

Due to the nature of the goods that we store, it is imperative that Power-it complies with the SABS National Standards for the warehousing and storage of dangerous goods which includes the below.

SANS 102630 - The warehousing of dangerous goods

Part 0: General requirements

This standard governs dangerous substances, which are classified into classes and divisions depending on the hazards they pose, and into categories depending on the severity of the hazard. These classifications determine the way in which we store your goods. South Africa has adopted the globally used UN classification, numbering and packaging systems for dangerous goods. Therefore, ensuring that at all times these goods are stored in accordance with international standards. Our warehouse controller(s) ensure:

- the occupational health and safety of the people in the warehouse,

- the safe receipt, marshalling, storage and dispatch of goods; and

- the protection of the environment from the hazardous effects of goods stored in the warehouse.

Part 5: The storage and handling of oxidizing substances.

This standard determines the manner in which oxidizing substances are classified according to three categories. Our personnel handling these substances are made fully conversant with the means of identifying dangerous goods and the properties of the specific substances handled, by reference to the relevant safety data sheets, and applicable safety regulations and procedures. Our warehousing building construction is in accordance with SANS 10263-0, and this enables our customers to have peace of mind that their goods are kept safe and secure at all times.

SANS 310 - Storage tank facilities for hazardous chemicals: Above-ground storage tank facilities for flammable, combustible and non-flammable chemicals

This standard specifies the layout, design, installation, operation and maintenance of above-ground storage tanks. It also regulates the equipment used for the handling, storage and distribution of hazardous chemicals in liquid, solids and powder form.

SANS 310 clearly defines the required:

- Training of on-site staff;

- Design and construction of plant, equipment, and buildings;

- Operations generally when dealing with the hazardous goods;

- Hazard identification and risk management; and

- Emergency response and fire control in storage tank facilities.

LOGISTICS SAFETY

SQAS

We are complaint with the SQAS (Safety & Quality Assessment System) which assists logistics providers by regulating the transport and storage of classified dangerous goods.

SQAS assessments evaluate the quality, safety, security and environmental performance of Logistic Service Providers and Chemical Distributors in a standardized manner. The assessments are conducted by independent accredited assessors using a standard questionnaire. The standards are extremely high and SQAS accreditation only awarded to service providers who achieve a 90% and above during accreditation audits.

We do not compromise on Safety. Our robust safety regime has the buy-in of all our employees.

Planned job observations are conducted regularly to verify understanding of our procedures and work processes and to test the competency of our employees. In addition to this, risk assessments are undertaken prior to any changes taking place at the work place or in operations.

In addition to this, safety audits are carried out on a regular basis by internal, external and customer auditors. At all times, we remain compliant with all applicable safety legislation and internal policies relating to health and safety.
